Deaf Hoosiers
ISD Cheerleading Champions! PDF Print E-mail

We are very proud to announce that our ISD cheerleaders won the title Hoosier Cup Level Three National Championship!

We participated in this event held at covnention center in downtown Indianapolis last Saturday, December 1, in hopes of learning more and to be prepared for future competitions, since we have 4 rookies this year. My assistant coach, Brianna and I wanted our cheerleaders to get a taste of being in competition before our big one next month. Little did we know that this would be one experience not to be forgotten!! Our cheerleaders arrived with their mouths wide open, trying to absorb what was going on around us. Not a dull moment in that huge room with countless cheerleaders all dressed up….from maybe 2 or 3 years old up to seniors in high school.

There were five different levels at this competition and we won level three! I am quite sure that it was an experience for the spectators to watch our cheerleaders performing out on the mat. None of our cheerleaders made a peep and the only thing they could hear was the beat coming from the drum and a short span of music for their dance part! Phenonmenal experience!

We would like to congratulate our fabulous ISD cheerleaders!  Please congratulate them whenever you see them: Brandy Himes, Savannah Hall, Jeff Spinale, Fallon McWilliams, LeShae Smith, Mercedes Olson, Paige Hawkins and Alyssa Barrett! Many thanks for making ISD shine brighter!!!

ISD Girls Basketball ranked #5 in defensive scoring average PDF Print E-mail

ISD Girls Basketball ranked #5 in the state for girls basketball defensive scoring average according to a recent report published by the IHSAA.

Indiana Lady Orioles’ 30.78 points allowed per game put the team on state radar at number five.

“This is a great accomplishment considering the fact that we have the smallest enrollment number in the state,” Head Coach Schwall said. “There are only 49 girls enrolled in ISD high school department and 12 girls, or 25% of the female population, took up the task to represent ISD well.”

 DEFENSIVE SCORING AVERAGE

 1. Frontier  28.91

2. Daleville  29.55

3. North Daviess 30.48

4. Riverton Parke  30.61

5. Indiana Deaf {1A} 30.78

50. TH North 38.43

Teams mentioned on the ranking that ISD played this year were Daleville (2nd), International (23rd), Greenwood Christian (24th), Bethesda Christian (28th) and Herron (2A, 40th).

“Daleville is a team who beat us earlier in the season and they are ranked number two in the state,” Athletic Director Paul Wood said. “ We won against International twice and beat the other teams. This is not an easy task. I am proud of our coaching staff who did a great job.”
