Mr. Dennis Catron decided to wrap up his coaching experience of 17 years to pursue his other hobbies. Here are his highlights of coaching years at Indiana School for the Deaf.
Mr. Catron accepted the task to coach the HS girls basketball team in January 2004. It was wonderful opportunity to coach the team for 2 and half years. The team was pretty much volleyball players but they were able to deliver the most exciting moments with their dedication and determination to capture the Clerc tourney and earned the National Team of the Year in 2006. They also still hold the best winning percent of the win-loss record to this day. He left coaching job to enjoy his son’s playing years at ISD for four years.
Then he returned back to coach again with boys team in 2010. The team was filled with young, inexperienced players but they have developed over time in his two coaching years with them. The team got back after finishing dead last a year before to earn 3rd place at Clerc with a team sportsmanship honor. It was great accomplishment for them.
Mr. Catron expressed that “It has been a great privilege to coach them after teaching most of these student-athletes when they were elementary students. It was memorable moments for me to watch them grow in both academics and basketball.”
He wishes them the best luck with many seasons to come!
